If you just can't wait for Christmas

The other day I was busy (surfing) when i chanced upon this beauty blog from a very sweet girl in Australia.  She had a great idea that I want to share with my Filipina sisters. Here it is - an INTERNATIONAL MAKEUP SWAP.

For those of you who are unfamiliar, a makeup swap involves two parties whether it be international or local who swap unused makeup in the hope of finding new beauty goods.  The two parties decide on a budget and a time frame in which they will do their shopping.  After expiration of said time frame, you will then send your loot to the other party and vice versa.  And when it arrives it's just like Christmas when you were 7 years old sitting in front of a tree not knowing what awesome goodness waits for you inside the box.

There are rules however to this INTERNATIONAL MAKEUP SWAP.  You must be a certified blogger so your partner can find out more about you and your likes and dislikes.  Ms. Jasmine, the owner of the blog i referred to earlier, set a budget for $AU50.  In Philippine pesos that would be about Php2,150.00.

She badly needs more international bloggers to join the swap.  Personally, I'm gonna take this opportunity to showcase the quality and ingenuity of the Philippine Cosmetics Industry.  So I am diving into more research to find the truly unique, high quality and most importantly Filipino-owned cosmetics that I will be proud to send off to lands across our seas.  If you have anything in mind, you can write it in the comments box below and I will give it a go.  Thanks and hope to catch you in the International Makeup Swap.

Details for the INTERNATIONAL MAKEUP SWAP can be found here.

Online Shopping Skills

I've been mulling over this purchase for about a week now.  And finally, I gave in.

http://www.ensogo.com.ph/products/ultra-eshiko-10232012.html

There's something about online shopping that's so... comforting.  Imagine this.  You're sitting back, your coffee in tow, while purchasing that lovely top or that bag you just can't live without.  It's revolution at it's finest - the internet put to good use.

But of course it comes with its own disadvantage.  You won't get to try on the product until it's yours.  You won't feel the fabric hugging your curves or feel the height of the heel if it's comfortable to walk in.  The most dangerous, for cosmetic products, is that you won't feel the downside until it's already on your face breaking you out or doing some nasty thing to your skin.  And you have about 500mL of product left!

Being the diligent online shopper I am (if I do say so myself) there is a strategy to prevent these things from happening, for the cosmetics at least.  Clothes and shoes are easier.  If you don't like it, you can sell it at your nearest ukay ukay.  Or better yet take pictures of it, put it up on sale in your facebook page and wait for friends who will be interested to buy it.  But for cosmetics, it would make you feel really bad to sell it off knowing that it gave you negative results which could also affect your potential buyer.

So the secret to a wonderful life of online cosmetic shopping is.... RESEARCH.  Plain and simple.  The internet provides an array of blogs with makeup reviews.  All you have to do is find it.  Things you should look for are of course your product of interest.  Next is to look for bloggers or reviews who reflect the similar skin type as yours - oily, dry, combination, etc.  Another good reference would be the mac scale of skin tone.  Find out yours at your nearest mac store and you can find different bloggers with the same shade and check out the items they love.  Sounds simple but you have to use your think box.  You already know how much you want to buy your product of interest.  Now all you have to do is think if the research material you have is enough to support your purchase.  I know what you're thinking, some reviews are fabricated or overly exaggerated.  But if you research enough, you will find a lot others who really speak their mind and are honest and truthful about their experience.

In my case, I found quite a few blogs to fuel my purchase for the ULTRA HD ESHIKO FACE POWDER.  If you're looking to buy it too, here they are:

Although the powder contains silica, which I learned in make up school is not good for oily skin, I still want to give it a shot.  I cling to the teachings in makeup school like a fat kid on a jelly donut.  But like all things in life, you have to take what you were taught and work around or through it to find what works for you.  Otherwise, we would all be copiers and there would be no innovators.

So for my online purchase today, I just paid the discounted price of the Eshiko Face Powder from Ensogo.  A thorough review will follow after I've received it of course.

Stay tuned, pretties. :)   Blessed week ahead...

Prime Post

So... hello world!  It took me about an hour to come up with a title for this blog.  But before that, I've been thinking about it for the past 2 weeks.  It had to be simple, laid back but eye catching and definitive.  Before you even come to this blog, you must already have an idea of what it's about through the title.  And I'm pretty sure you do... do you?

This is a blog about beauty and love and you.  Beauty is eternal - it is God's gift.  We were all born beautiful. That is God's gift.  What we do with ourselves and how we take care of ourselves is our gift to God.  Ashton Kutcher said this in a wonderful movie, "Love is the only shocking act left on the planet."  And it is.  Especially in this country (the Philippines).  You get warm smiles from everyone, even the sleepy guard on graveyard shift who looks up to see you walk by.  And of course you because what would human effort be if not in service to other people?

So that's it.  My first post.  My reason for bringing this blog into fruition.

One last thing.  This blog is also for me.  Here's why: for the past 10 years I have been new-years-resolution-ing for weight loss.  But of course, according to statistics only about 12% actually go through with it.  So by chronicling my weight loss "adventure" in this blog it's like screaming it out to the world which makes it a binding verbal contract between me and everyone else.  You, le reader, will be held accountable for my weight loss progress because it has been known to you and you bear witness to every moment of it.

There... see you soon in my next blog entries.  (Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens i hope you don't mind but...) This is the start of something new...
